Experimental Aircraft Association’s Young Eagles Program:  The EAA Young Eagles program was launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 - 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. These flights are offered free of charge and are made possible through the generosity of EAA member volunteers.  Visit www.youngeagles.org for more information.

Civil Air Patrol:  In 1946, Congress granted a charter to Civil Air Patrol, charging its members with three missions. First, CAP was to promote aviation. As years passed, that mission expanded to include aerospace education as well. Second, CAP was to provide a training program to support the nation’s youth in contributing to society and preparing for successful adult lives. Finally, CAP was to continue its emergency services, the work for which CAP is still best known today.

Concord Senior Center Airport Familiarization Classes:  In conjunction with Emeritus College and Scholar Olli, the Concord Senior Center provides a two-session class that provides community members with a chance to learn about the history of Buchanan Field Airport and what’s going on now.  The first session is a 2-hour lesson on how the Airport got to where it is, and what the County is doing to make sure that it continues to be the wonderful community asset it is today.  The second session is held at Buchanan Field Airport and consists of a one-hour lesson where a Certified Flight Instructor and an Air Traffic Controller talk about flying at the Airport.  During the second hour, class participants are taken on a bus tour of the entire airfield.
